The Occasional Performing Sinfonia
TOPS is a community-based Sydney orchestra, founded in 1992. It has gained exceptional standing amongst Sydney's classical and orchestral music enthusiasts.
TOPS performs several concerts each year with a wide variety of themes and featuring large scale symphonic works. TOPS collaborates with public and private schools to include young performers in the ranks of the orchestra and also as soloists.
TOPS is unique among community orchestras in that it rehearses only two or three times before each concert, calling on the experience and talent of its members - a mix of amateur and professional musicians.
Fundraising for Music Therapy is a primary focus for TOPS. As the resident orchestra for the Celebration Sing Out! massed choral concert held annually in the Sydney Town Hall since 1993, TOPS has helped raise over $1,000,000 for the Music Therapy Unit at Children's Hospital at Westmead.
